PROGRAM SUMMARY

The College Internship Program at Tuscan Gardens Senior Living® will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the senior living industry as well as practical career experience in gerontology, hospitality, food service operations, marketing, resident engagement, memory care, human resources management, administration and healthcare services. It is available to students on a semester basis or on a progressive basis, which will not only satisfy all of your internship needs, but.also develop a career path at the same time.

The internship is a rolling program, with a duration ranging from 4 – 12 weeks per semester at one of our three communities: Tuscan Gardens® of Venetia Bay, Tuscan Gardens® of Palm Coast, or Tuscan Gardens® of Delray Beach. Participants will receive a personalized internship program and either rotate amongst departments or concentrate in particular areas. This hands-on training gives our student interns relevant career experience.

During the last week of the Program, each participant will provide a final presentation to our Director of Organizational Development. This presentation should include an overview
of tasks completed, skills acquired, memorable interactions, observations and your assessment of whether senior living might be a career direction you would like to explore further.

Tuscan Gardens® is committed to associate development and leadership training. As an intern at Tuscan Gardens®, this commitment also provides you the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, particularly as a progressive intern. We believe training and developing our associates and interns are of the utmost importance to progress in their career and cultivate their experience in the senior living industry. Our onsite training sessions offer a range of topics which touch all aspects of senior living.

The trainings and classes available will provide you a kaleidoscope of skills which will improve overall job performance, develop personal confidence, and refine your resume for future professional pursuits.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
& LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Senior living can be seen as the combination of four distinct businesses: community operations, food service, hospitality, and health care. The Tuscan Gardens® College Internship Program mirrors those four areas in an immersive 4-, 8- or 12-week per semester internship program completed at one of our three luxurious senior living communities. Each intern will receive an individualized program identifying their primary areas of interest as well as whether they will be rotating among all four business areas or focusing on specific areas of interest.

In short, the Tuscan Gardens College Internship Program is extremely flexible and individualized giving its participants the ability to acquire valuable hands-on skills, and knowledge of the senior living industry in one immersive semester and/or a potential career track through progressive internships over multiple semesters.

At Tuscan Gardens®, homemade delicious food is an essential part of every day and our onsite Chefs ensure culinary excellence is achieved daily. Our restaurant-style dining rooms and commercial grade kitchens will provide you training and experience in a professional culinary environment.

  • Meal planning, preparation and plating
  • Menu knowledge and preparation
  • Nutritional needs and guidelines
  • Dining room scheduling and inventory management
  • Standard serving tasks: set tables, take meal orders, clear dishes, bus tables, assist with dish washing and maintaining food service stations
  • Customer service

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As an intern at Tuscan Gardens®, you gain experience from our Culinary Department in the following areas:

  • Food quality, preparation, appearance and presentation standards and techniques
  • Production of menus, food ordering and nutritional/dietary criteria compliance
  • Cooking standards including speed, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Dining room service management
  • Nutritional requirements and meal preparation for specific dietary needs
  • Resident customer service management
  • Equipment maintenance

All of our locations are licensed assisted living facilities and offer assisted living and memory care supportive health services. A personalized care plan is created for every resident and is updated routinely or upon a change in condition. Care plans can include a range of support residents need with activities of daily living (ADLs) as well as other items such as medication management.

  • Shadow the Regional Director of Health Services, in conducting quarterly audits and training for the onsite clinical team

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As an intern at Tuscan Gardens®, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the health care related activities of our community, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Activities of daily living and their coordination
  • Medication management
  • Overall health care needs of the elderly
  • Caring for residents with Alzheimer’s disease and various types of Dementia
  • Recognizing gerontology phases in the elderly
  • Observing health changes and their implications
  • Proper equipment, documentation and standard operating procedure management
  • Understanding of care changes throughout shift changes
  • Personalized care plan management

Tuscan Gardens® provides a lifestyle promoting physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual well-being. The Resident Engagement Directors and Memory Care Directors are a vital part of facilitating this lifestyle for our residents. They plan activities that provide residents a daily sense of purpose, passion and joy.

  • Music and art therapy, entertainment for special events, monthly birthday parties, group games, and weekly religious services
  • Plan and execute meaningful activities conducive to the physical, mental and social well-being of memory care residents
  • Production of monthly activities calendars
  • Preparation and distribution of weekly program content
  • Gather information, articles, and photos for the resident newsletter
  • Support resident participation in activities in both assisted living and memory care

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As an intern at Tuscan Gardens®, you will have the opportunity to interact with seniors in diverse stages of life and help them find joy in various activities.

  • Use of technology such as IN2L and One-Day University to enhance daily activities and bring joy
  • Memory Care life-skill stations and their importance
  • The fundamental activity and socialization needs of the elderly
  • How to care for those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or various other forms of dementia
  • Support resident participation in activities in both assisted living and memory care.

  • Administrative efforts, such as, recruiting, onboarding, data entry, evaluation management, reports, uploading paperwork and file management, etc.
  • Resident, family, guest and vendor management and communication

  • Audit resident and associate files and binders to ensure compliance

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

As an intern at Tuscan Gardens® you will be exposed to the inner workings of a luxury senior living community as well as the various management tasks involved.

  • Assisted living community standards and standard operating procedures
  • Maintaining a positive resident, family and associate experience
  • Customer service and communication
  • Leadership and community management
  • Explore strategies for measuring, improving and aligning organizational needs
  • Analyze operations including budget and financial, as well as sales and marketing efforts and action plans, KPIs and metrics

COVID-19

  • Negative COVID-19 test in Florida within 24 hours of your start date
  • Masks are required until further notice
  • The COVID-19 vaccine is not required, but strongly encouraged for all residents and associates

Training

  • MYALF training modules related to Health Services, including but not limited to PPE modules for families and compassionate care, are available to our interns
  • Tuscan Gardens® Orientation is also provided to interns to introduce them to the company, job roles, expectations and work environment

Hours

  • 20-40 hours per week
  • Monday – Sunday

Compensation

  • Weekly Rate: $450.00 per 40-hour week
  • An attractive furnished suite onsite is available to you at no expense*
  • A full complimentary meal package from our dining room is offered to our interns*

*While full room and board are offered at the communities, it is not required for you to stay onsite during the internship. We provide it to our interns to maximize their total immersion in the experience.
